Road Conditions/Directions
| 4 Ways open to Big Bear - Highway 18 from San Bernardino through Lake Arrowhead/Running Springs ("Front Way") is the shortest route, but is congested at times and has lots of curves. Highway 38 from Redlands ("Back Way") is the best route when leaving the Valley on weekends and holidays. Highway 18 from Lucerne Valley ("Desert Way") is best in snowy weather. Hwy 330 from 210 FWY is now open again and is the most popular.
Get detailed driving directions.
| Hwy. 330: (Running Springs)
Hwy. 18: near Lake Arrowhead/Running Spgs
| Hwy 330 is OPEN. From the 210 FWY go north on the 330 from the 210 Freeway for 15.7 miles to Running Springs. When you get to Running Springs, continue straight towards Big Bear Lake (the road name changes to the SR18, but it is the same road). Follow SR18 for about 12 miles towards Big Bear Lake until you get to the Dam. When you get to the Dam, go straight for 2.3 miles to Golden Bear Cottages. The office is on the right. NOTE: This is the most direct route from the Inland Empire, Orange Co., LA and San Diego.
Open, and clear. Hwy 18 from Waterman Ave through the Arctic Circle is open to passenger vehicles only. We recommend using alternate routes Hwy 330, Hwy 38 and Hwy 18 the back way from the Desert. (check road conditions on our Home page before your drive)

| DIRECTIONS TO BIG BEAR LAKE
1) Hwy SR18 from the San Bernardino area. Begin at the Waterman exit from the 210 freeway (the approximate travel time from this point in good weather is one hour). Go north towards Lake Arrowhead, then continue on by following the signs to Big Bear Lake. When you get to the Dam, go straight ahead for 2.3 miles to Golden Bear Cottages. The office is on the right. NOTE: this road is considered too narrow and curvy for some inexperienced mountain drivers and for passengers prone to motion sickness.
2) Hwy SR38 from the Redlands area. Begin at the Hwy 38 exit from the 10 freeway in Redlands (the approximate travel time from this point in good weather is one and 1/2 hour). Go north on Orange Street about 1/2 mile to Lugonia. Turn right on Lugonia (which is SR38) and follow it through Mentone and up the mountain towards Big Bear. When you get to Big Bear, take a left on the main road and follow it along the lake. After about 10 miles you will see the Preforming Arts/Civic Center, our office is just 1/2 mile past it on the left. NOTE: this road is a bit longer, but except for about 7 miles, it is far less curvy. A favorite of many drivers because it is a beautiful senic drive.
3) Hwy SR18 from the High Desert. Begin at the Bear Valley Road Exit from the 15 freeway (the approximate travel time from this point in good weather is one and 1/4 hour). Beginning at Lucerne Valley, take Hwy 18 towards Big Bear. When you get to the top of the mountain, go right along the Lake towards Big Bear. When you get to Stanfield Cut-off, go over Big Bear Lake and turn right (West) towards the Dam. We are about 6 miles just past the Preforming Arts/Civic Center. The office is on the left side of the road. NOTE: This is the best road for guests traveling from Las Vegas (less than 3 hours for the total drive). This road only has about 6 miles of curvy road. The rest is an easy drive. It is a good alternative.
4) Hwy SR330 OPEN AGAIN... It is a very good road, but a bit curvy for some passengers prone to motion sickness.
Please Drive SAFELY. For the latest roadinformation, see the ROAD CONDITIONS link at the top of our home page. Cal Trans updates it every few minutes. Snow Summit is open for Winter. Come up and experience our Fall activities including snow play, skiing and snowboarding and be sure to have lunch at the View Haus BBQ high atop Big Bear at 8,200 feet. Big Bear valley is a four season resort as well as a beautiful place to live all year round.
There are three major highways and four ways to enter the valley as well as an airport.
But for this journey we will begin on highway 18 which begins in the City of San Bernardino, California. The 45 minute drive up the mountain is in itself a scenic wonder however when you cross over the dam on our new bridge you will enter an area we call Boulder Bay. Just past the bay you will find world famous historic Golden Bear Gottages resort filled with 28 restored cabins of all sizes fron little Jacuzzi studios to larger group cabins as large as 5 or 7 bedrooms.
Just a block before Golden Bear Cottages you'll find a brand new park on the lake, on your left, because it also provides ample parking a dock that is often occupied by fishermen and ladies with a great lake view!
Another quarter mile on your left and you will see a sign for Pleasure Point Marina which has as much to do about boat rentals, guided fishing tours and wakeboarding as well as full and part time What To Do In Big Bear fishing and boating! Big Bear valley is a beautiful four season resort as well as a beautiful place to live all year round.
Another quarter mile on your right up highway 18 and you will find a locals favorite called Azteca Grill with authentic Mexican dishes to die for at very reasonable prices including beer and wine. Say hello to your hosts Arturo and Rosa for us!
And would believe just another quarter mile up the road on your right you will find a long time outdoor fun park called Alpine Slide. With Go carts, Miniature Golf and Bob Sled it operates 12 months of the year and provides fun for Kids of all ages.
Another quarter mile and you have to make a decision. Do you wish to go straight ahead and enter the village with dozens of shops and visit one of Big Bears most famous photo artist, Tim Wolcott at his world famous Gallery Of The American Landscapes. Or turn left, follow the curve and just on your right you will discover the Bowing Barn with tons of things to do including a bar with a dance floor. And believe it or not just a few feet more and the next barn red building is Big Bears newest entertainment center, the Big Bear Fun Plex with its own lazer-tag court, alpine roller coaster and, bumper cars, pool tables, arcade games and did we mention the pizza restaurant inside?
By the way just few blocks more on your right and you will the office for Action Zipline which is a 3 hour excursion high up in the forest with nine zip lines that are sure to open your eyes and give your heart a thrill. Don't miss this "once in a lifetime opportunity"
Now just for a minute let us introduce you to our beautiful national forest with over 450 miles of off road vehicle paths as well as an untold number of miles in bike paths and while we're on the subject of bike paths just a quarter of a mile on your right you will find Summit Blvd. entrance to that well known premier ski slope and right on the corner with a huge parking lot is another premier business called Chains Required that not only rents bikes in the summer but skis in the winter. What an ideal location. By now you know that Big Bear is all about fresh air and recreation with super relaxation!
When you are well rested from the recreating and shopping, etc. let us introduce you to just two more places you will want to know about. Go back down Moonridge road and turn right and drive past the Stater Brothers and Von's shopping centers and about a mile down the road you will find a fun place on your right called Big Bear Snow Play and of course its only open in the winter but on a very gentle hill that's just right for small children as well as the adults you might have with you.
And would you believe right across the highway is a giant of a building called The Big Bear Lake Convention Center. This building happens to house the largest Octoberfest celebration in the state of California as well as a dozen major events throughout the year. And would you believe it can hold up to 1500 people? For you Corporate types that are looking for a location that provides a change in atmosphere with a ton of old-world hospitality the Big Bear Lake convention center is worth a look-see.
